As has been the case in recent years, the Newport Jazz Festival will feature artists who don't typically evoke the genre.
The 2024 festival lineup announced Tuesday includes nearly 50 performers coming to Rhode Island's Fort Adams for the three-day festival in August. Among the highlights are legendary artists including Sun Ra Arkestra, Bill Frisell and Kamasi Washington as well as newcomers such as Samara Joy and Laufey.
Also joining the event — which is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year — are André 3000, also known as half of the hip-hop duo OutKast, Elvis Costello and Nile Rodgers & CHIC.
André 3000's inclusion in the lineup comes several months after he reintroduced himself to the world as a flutist, releasing his debut solo album "New Blue Sun" with no lyrics, just instrumentals.
When is the 2024 Newport Jazz Festival?
The 2024 festival takes place Aug. 2-4 in Fort Adams State Park in Newport.
